چکیده

We consider an IvI Ilv!1 c queue with two classes of customers. We examine the effect of different priority policies on the optimal number of servers to minimize the long-run expected average server and holding costs of the system. Three different policies are considered; the non-idling non-preemptive and preemptive policies as well as the idling policy which minimizes the long-run expected average holding cost of the system in the class of non-preemptive policies. We show that their effect on the optimal number of servers is not significant for many real life systems. This conclusion allows us to consider the design problem under any of the above policies, which introduces significant computational simplification for the system under the idling policy.

Lex-Optimal Multiclass Scheduling with Deadlines

A new optimality criterion and associated scheduling and dropping algorithm are presented for multiclass packets with deadlines. Equal length packets with deadlines and priority labels are either scheduled by their deadlines or dropped on or possibly before their deadlines. An L-bit priority label is used to handle up to 2 priority classes. A scheduling policy is called lex-optimal within the c...

Compensation modeling for QoS support on a wireless network

This paper presents the design of a new error compensation model for providing QoS support on a wireless network. The compensation model uses different compensation strategies for the different priority classes in conjunction with a Multiclass Priority Fair Queuing (MPFQ) algorithm. Criteria for fair error compensation and a classification of error compensation models are established in order t...

On Causal Scheduling of Multiclass Traffic with Deadlines

Causal scheduling-dropping policies for multiclass traac with deadlines are considered. Packets with deadlines and class labels arrive in discrete time and are either scheduled by their deadlines or dropped on or possibly before their deadlines. Emphasis is on the case that there are two classes of traac, and on causal policies which at any given time base decisions on arrivals up to that time....

Reflecting on Backward Design for Knowledge Translation; Comment on “A Call for a Backward Design to Knowledge Translation”

In a recent Editorial for this journal, El-Jardali and Fadlallah proposed a new framework for Knowledge Translation (KT) in healthcare. Many such frameworks already exist; thus, new entrants to the field must be scrutinized in regard to their unique contributions to advancing understanding and practice. The El-Jardali and Fadlallah framework focuses on policy-level discussions, a relatively und...

Investigating the Role of Economic Policies on the Utilization of New Energy in Iranian Power Plants (Case Study: Subsidy Policies, Pricing, and Cost Reduction)

Energy is considered as one of the most urgent and critical requirements of development. The high demand for energy from fossil fuels makes economic growth easy, but the current energy system is not sustainable due to its negative effects on the environment and human life. Sustainable development has been defined as a development that will provide the needs of the present generation without comp...
